The ceremonial departure of the couple at the end of the wedding
What Is a Wedding Exit?
The wedding exit (also called the grand exit or send-off) is the ceremonial moment when guests gather to see the couple off at the end of the wedding reception. Traditionally, guests toss rice at the departing couple — a symbol of fertility and prosperity. Modern exit traditions include: sparklers held by guests lining the exit path, dried flower or lavender toss, bubbles, ribbon wands, petal toss, seed packets, and paper cones of confetti. The exit is heavily photographed and represents one of the final memorable images of the wedding celebration.

Logistics matter enormously for a successful exit. Coordinate with your photographer and DJ/bandleader to choreograph the gathering and exit timing. Sparkler exits require specific sparkler lengths (36-inch sparklers burn for about 90 seconds — long enough for a good photo sequence). Always check venue rules on sparklers, confetti, and rice before selecting an exit style — many venues prohibit outdoor sparklers or certain throwable materials.
